Choosing Retailers for their Green-ess

Air Miles myPlanet logoWe are going to start buying products for our eco renovation – and it just makes sense for us to use a retailer that is doing more than talking about helping the planet. To that end, I discovered that RONA – the largest Canadian distributor and retailer of hardware - is a sponsor of AIR MILES MyPlanet, a brand-new initiative to push Canadian consumers to “make a diff.”

I liked RONA  already for its launch of a line of RONA Eco-Responsible products, and for the fact that it changed it corporate tagline from “The How-to People” to “Doing it Right” with their environmental mission in mind.

When I went to last spring’s National Home Show, I was one of hundreds of consumers who lined up for almost an hour to walk through the Dream Home. The open-concept, highly modern layout was to showcase the latest in home decor trends – but what I was struck most by was the plethora of RONA eco products scattered throughout the mock-house.

Now the company is jumping into the hot trend of reality TV shows (will they never end?!) with My RONA Home. I’m disappointed to see no traces of its Eco-Responsible focus show up yet in the TV trailers.
